N.C. Jr. Beta Club State Competition
The National Jr. Beta Clubs at Highfalls Elementary School (K-8), New Century Middle School and Westmoore Elementary School (K-8) competed at the North Carolina Jr. Beta Club State Convention. The competition was held at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, N.C. from January 29-31, 2023. Students who placed in the top five for each category earned a spot to compete at the National Jr. Beta Club Convention, which will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, KY in June 2023.
The following students placed in the top five of their respective category:
New Century Middle School: 1st Place – Creative Writing (Paizlee Davis); 2nd Place – NC for Technology (Colby Parks and Devin Uerka); and 4th Place – Social Studies (Cameron Saunders).
Westmoore Elementary School: 3rd Place – Elementary Book Battle; State Champion – Color Photography (Sadie Cockman); State Champion – Creative Writing (Brayden Morgan); 2nd Place – Digital Art (Andrew Moore); 2nd Place – Drawing (Brooks Myrick); 4th Place – Elementary Engineering; 5th Place – Junior Engineering; 3rd Place – Elementary Marketing & Communications; 3rd Place – Junior Marketing & Communications; State Champions – Elementary Musicology; 3rd Place – Junior Musicology; 3rd Place – Painting (Sadie Cockman); State Champions – Performing Arts (Brooks Myrick & Avery McNeill); 5th Place – Poetry (River Stalker); 3rd Place – Elementary Portfolio; 3rd Place – Junior Portfolio; 3rd Place – Pottery (Jackson Luck); 3rd Place – Elementary Quiz Bowl; 5th Place – Junior Quiz Bowl; State Champion – 5th Grade Science (Leonardo Velazquez-Reyes); 4th Place – 8th Grade Science (Brooks Myrick); State Champions – Service Learning Showcase; 3rd Place – Elementary Technology; 3rd Place – Junior Technology; and 2nd Place – Club Trading Pin.
The North Carolina Jr. Beta Club State Convention was a great opportunity for students from all over the state to compete in various academic, STEM-based, and performing arts competitions. Moore County Schools are so proud of the students who participated in this event and wish the best to all students who will be representing their school and Moore County Schools at the National Convention this summer.
Westmoore Elementary School was the top performing Club from Moore County Schools at the state level competition. Westmoore Jr. Betas, a club that has been on the rise at the state level in recent years, won 25 awards at the Convention. Of the nearly 4,000 attendees and over 80 North Carolina schools represented, only two other schools in the state took home more awards than Westmoore Elementary School.
With more than 500,000 active members and 9,000 clubs nationally and internationally, the National Beta Club has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. The National Beta Club promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.
