Academically and Intellectually Gifted Program

The Moore County Schools AIG program is committed to meeting the educational needs of students with special gifts, talents and abilities found in all ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic groups.

The AIG program integrates gifted education into the total school program through service options that are flexible, dynamic and inclusive. The array of service options support individual growth at varying levels of ability. Multiple criteria are used in the identification process to appraise student need for differentiated services.

The curriculum goals of the AIG program are to differentiate and enrich the NC Standard Course of Study, develop abstract thinking and reasoning skills, encourage creative thinking and problem solving, and to foster self-directed learning processes which encourage advanced students to develop to their fullest potential as 21st century learners.

Transfer Policy
If a student has been identified in another state or county and moves to Moore County Schools, official documentation of prior referral and services must be provided to the school AIG teacher. Once official documentation has been received, the AIG teacher will contact the parent/guardian(s) to arrange a meeting. At this meeting, placement paperwork will be completed and a Differentiated Education Plan will be developed to determine the appropriate services.

Per SENATE BILL 1541 Article V, students from military families who move into the Moore County Schools district and who were identified in a previous system may continue to receive services upon receipt of official documentation showing prior referral and identification as gifted.

Once a student has been assessed for AIG services, additional testing will not occur for 18 months.

For additional information, please contact the AIG teacher at your school or the Specialist for Advanced Studies.
