Title I, Part A - Improving the Academic Achievement of Disadvantaged Students

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.
Title II, Part A - Improving Teacher Quality

The purpose of this part is to provide grants to State educational agencies, local educational agencies, State agencies for higher education and eligible partnerships in order to;
- Increase student academic achievement through strategies such as improving teacher and principal quality and increasing the number of highly qualified teachers in the classroom and highly qualified principals and assistant principals in schools; and
- Hold local educational agencies and schools accountable for improvements in student academic achievement.

Title III - Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient Students and Immigrant Students

The purpose of this part includes helping to ensure that children who are limited English proficient, including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic attainment in English and meet the same challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards as all children are expected to meet.
Title IV-A - Block Grant

School districts use these funds to provide student support and academic enrichment.
Title VII (Impact Aid)
Contact: Dr. Lisa Scott
School districts use Impact Aid for a wide variety of expenses, including the salaries of teachers and teacher aides; purchasing textbooks, computers and other equipment; after-school programs and remedial tutoring; advanced placement classes; and special enrichment programs. Payments for Children with Disabilities must be used for the extra costs of educating these children.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Grant

Congress reauthorized in January of 2002 the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, Subtitle VII-B, originally passed in 1987 to help people experiencing homelessness.. This federal law includes the Education of Homeless Children and Youth Program that entitles children who are homeless to a free, appropriate public education and requires schools to remove barriers to their enrollment, attendance and success in school.
Additional Grants
Army Youth Program in Your Neighborhood (AYPYN) - provides supplemental resources ($145,000 renewable annually) to support military youth in Moore County Schools.
Department of Defense Education Authority (DODEA) - Grant to support supplemental efforts at Moore County Schools. Recently, this grant provided support for the MCS digital learning initiative.
