Moore County's FAQ Innovative year round calendar page

FAQ Innovative year round calendar

Q: Why is this calendar called an “Innovative Year-Round Calendar?”

A: In order to meet the calendar requirements set by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, the district must refer to the calendar as an “Innovative Year-Round Calendar.” This title allows greater calendar flexibility such as completing the first semester prior to the mid-year holiday break. The minimum number of days and hours of instruction are the same as the traditional calendar, which is 185 days or 1,025 hours.

Q: What is an “Intersession”?

A: Intersessions are times when schools offer OPTIONAL programs such as STEM camps, summer school, Reading to Achieve and credit recovery. The intercessions are not part of the required instructional days and student attendance is not mandatory.

Q: When will this calendar be implemented?

A: The Innovative Year-Round Calendar will begin in the 2020-2021 school year.
