Background: Beginning in January 2019, Moore County Schools administrative staff and the Board of Education worked diligently to provide a transparent and collaborative process to establish new attendance areas for the district. We recognize that student assignment changes can be difficult for students and parents. However, a new student assignment plan was necessary to alleviate capacity issues on at number of campuses and to better utilize available space at others – including the new elementary schools opening in 2020/21 and 2021/22. 

This effort included the assistance of an advisory committee that included parents, school-based staff, principals from the district’s three high schools and central office administration. A timeline (see below) was developed along with a set of guiding principles for development of the student reassignment plan.  The advisory committee met throughout the first five months of the process, and seven public forums and a public hearing were held that were open to the entire community. An online portal was also made available several times throughout the process to allow those who were unable to attend public meetings to provide feedback. The final comment period ended September 20, 2019. Please refer to the FAQs for frequent questions that were asked.
