N.C. Student Opportunities

Transitioning to a new school and area can be challenging for a new student. Here are few unique opportunities for students that are specific to N.C. and MCS.

Duke Tip Program - Duke TIP helps gifted students discover their abilities, explore new academic challenges, and celebrate their accomplishments. Each year Duke Tip offers a talent search for students in Grades 4th - 7th as well as specialized camps and learning opportunities. Students enrolled in 7th Grade and AIG (Gifted Services) can register for the Duke Tip Talent Search. Click here for more information.

Sandhills Promise Program - MCS students who successfully complete at least four dual-enrollment courses through the Career and College Promise program at SCC with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and a 67% completion rate by the time of high school graduation are eligible for free tuition at Sandhills Community College. The Governor's School of North Carolina - The Governor’s School is a five and one-half week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school students. The program, which is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas. Students are nominate in the fall of their junior year to attend the following summer. Click here for more information.

North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM) - NCSSM is a free residential and online program in Durham, NC, for talented rising 11th-12th graders with an interest in STEM. Students interested in applying should complete their applications in the fall of their sophomore year. Click here for more information.

North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM) Free Courses - Gifted students or high academic achievers interested in taking online courses without having to apply the school of NCSSM may be eligible for free online courses offered through the school. These classes meet synchronously with an instructor. Students should contact their school counselor if they would like to take courses for high school credit. Click here for more information.
