Health and Wellness Information

L Keiser

The Moore County Health Program contributes to the academic success of the school-aged child by addressing any actual or potential health needs during the school day. There is a Registered Nurse assigned to collaborate with preventative and emergent health measures in each school.  Both minor and chronic health issues can be managed best in the classroom (and on the bus) by having a health care plan in place for a known health condition.
School Nurses follow Moore County Schools Policies and the laws set forth by the North Carolina Board of Nursing when assisting a student with their health needs.  They also look to guidance from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.  While students are encouraged to stay in their class during the school day, we realize that emergent situations can arise.  If a nurse is not available, a Principal appointed UAP (unlicensed assistive personnel) will assist your child.  Only students with parental consent (Spanish) will receive periodic health screenings (vision/hearing/dental/growth).

Please reach out to your assigned nurse and teacher(s) to share any health concerns and individual preferences regarding your child. Our goals are to facilitate a positive student response to normal development, promote health and safety, intervene with actual and potential health problems, provide case management services, and actively collaborate with community partners to facilitate self-advocacy and learning.

Meeting student’s health needs is crucial for learning!
