Guidelines for Public Comment

The Board appreciates the public sharing their views, concerns and commendations, and the members will be listening carefully. The Superintendent will follow up with individuals as appropriate.


  • If the speaker has printed information to share with Board members, please provide that information to the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Education, Sonya Potter, who will be responsible for distribution.

  • The Board allows for two 30 minute periods for public comment – one early in the agenda and one at the end. The second 30 minute period is offered only if speakers who signed up were unable to speak during the first 30 minute period. 

  • Presentations will be limited to three (3) minutes. A clock is displayed on the screen to allow the speaker to know when his/her time is up. The speaker is expected to stop when the countdown is complete.

  • Speakers are asked to be respectful and refrain from discussing concerns or complaints about individual personnel or students. The chairman will have the responsibility to determine if an item is inappropriate and to rule the speaker out of order, if necessary.
