Becoming a School Bus Driver

MCS External Candidates
  1. Complete the Moore County Schools online application for Generic Bus Driver.
  2. The Transportation Specialist will review applications and select candidates to be interviewed.
  3. After the interview process, the Transportation Specialist will contact the candidate and provide additional information and documentation needed to attend the next available school bus driver class.
  4. Prior to attending the class, the candidate must have completed all necessary paperwork. Additionally, the transportation department must have received an acceptable report from a criminal background check and driving record check. NOTE: It may be necessary for the candidate to provide any driving records from other states.

Before obtaining a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) the candidate must:

  1. be at least 18 years old;
  2. have never been convicted of a DWI or DUI;
  3. have an acceptable Criminal and Driving Record;
  4. have a valid North Carolina Drivers License; and
  5. complete the School Bus Training with a DMV Instructor:

 

School Bus Training consists of:

    • Completing a 3-day School Bus Driver Training Class;
    • Pass all written tests with 80% or better;
    • Complete a 3-day behind the wheel training; and
    • Pass the skill tests.
