Engineering Thread

MCS Engineering ThreadIn an effort to incorporate our highly successful robotics program into our daily curriculum, Moore County has created a set of engineering/design projects for grades K-8. This work was accomplished with DIFs working side by side with classroom teachers in the summers of 2016 & 2017. This work culminated in 12 highly engaging, standards-based engineering projects - 2 per grade level; one of which involves the use of robotics and another that utilizes "traditional" materials such as duct tape, cardboard, aluminum foil, paper clips, etc. All projects are embedded directly into our pacing guides here.

The first year of implementation was the 2016-2017 school year- the K-5 Engineering Thread was a smash success in it's first year, with over 250 projects implemented across every grade level and every school in Moore County. In the summer of 2017 we expanded the engineering thread to grades 6-8, in order to broaden student opportunities to plan, build, test, and improve their designs.

ALL of our materials are free/open to any other school system, parent, or community member that would like to utilize them. The projects are below:

Introduction to Engineering (K-2)
Introduction to Engineering (3-5)
Introduction to Engineering - Saving Sam! (Good for all grade levels)
