This is the image for the news article titled Superintendent's Message: Budget IntroductionThe Moore County Board of Education invites the public to participate in the development of its budget for the 2021-22 school year.

The School Board will receive the superintendent’s proposed budget for the 2021-22 school year during its day-long work session on Monday.  Given that the session will begin at 9 a.m. and may not conclude until late afternoon, the budget presentation most likely will occur shortly before or after the School Board’s mid-day lunch break.  For those who may not be able to view the livestream, the presentation will be recorded and available for viewing after the session on the Moore County Schools website at www.ncmcs.org.

As it has during the past six years, the School Board encourages the public to review the superintendent’s proposed budget during the week leading up to a public hearing.  This year’s public hearing will occur as part of the School Board’s regular business meeting on Monday, March 8.  The hearing will be conducted during the public portion of the meeting which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Public access to the March 8 meeting will be virtual.  So public input on the budget will be received in the same format by which the School Board receives public comment during its other virtual meetings.  Interested citizens may access the detailed guidelines for public comment on the meeting agenda which is posted on the district website at www.ncmcs.org/boardmeetingschedule.

Moore County Schools also will provide a website portal that citizens may use to comment on the proposed budget.  As always, citizens may share their views directly with School Board members at their email address, all of which may be accessed on the district website at www.ncms.org under “Announcements.”

Comments received through the portal will be collected and reported to the School Board during its next work session on March 29.  Board members will consider public input received from the budget hearing, the portal and email and other sources during the March 29 work session.  The Board will then offer direction to the staff concerning changes it wishes to make to the budget.

The staff will make those changes and present a final version of the budget for the School Board’s formal action during the regular business meeting on Monday, April 12.  At that point, it becomes the School Board’s proposed budget for 2021-22 and will be ready for presentation to the Moore County Board of Commissioners during its meeting on April 20.

The County Manager intends to present his proposed budget to the Commissioners during their meeting on May 18.  The Commissioners will then conduct their own public hearing on June 15 and take formal action by the end of June.
