At the September Work Session, the Moore County Board of Education appointed Southern Pines resident John Weaver to fill the seat left vacant by the sudden death of Bruce Cunningham.
Cunnigham served on the Moore County Board of Education representing District V, covering part of Southern Pines, Aberdeen and Pine Bluff.
Weaver is a former member of the Town of Southern Pines Planning Board and Moore County Hazardous Materials Planning Committee. He has served as a volunteer and on the board of directors for numerous local nonprofits including the United Way of Moore County, Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills, Southern Pines Parks & Recreations Department, North Carolina High School Athletics Association and the Sandhills Optimist Club. He was part of the Moore County Leadership Institute Class of 1992.
Weaver is a retired electrical engineer with nearly 42 years of experience in the electric energy industry. He has extensive experience in management and supervision with responsibility for the construction, operations and engineering of the distribution systems. He served in various capacities with Duke Energy/Progress Energy and Carolina Power & Light Company. He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from West Virginia Institute of Technology.
