Fixed Assets


Greater than $5,000

Tangible and intangible assets used in operations whose historical cost or fair value at donation was equal to or greater than the approved capitalization level (including applicable ancillary charges), when such assets have a useful life of longer than one year and are not primarily used to repair or maintain other assets, shall be identified as capital assets and shall be accounted for as required by the State, in accordance with administrative procedures approved by the Superintendent.

The approved capitalization levels for Moore County Schools are as follows:

Equipment - $5,000**
Buildings - $20,000
Infrastructure - $100,000

**Schools are responsible for reporting to the Finance Department any item purchased that meets the $5,000 capitalization level.

Less than $5,000

Any circulated item (including equipment/computer-related equipment) purchased at the school level must follow the School Fixed Asset Procedures. These are items that would be reported as stolen even though their value may be less than $5,000.
