Innovation Academy: Building Engineers in K-5 Classrooms

K5Eng

As an Innovation Academy, Moore County opens it's doors to public school educators across the state to learn more about how to incorporate engineering, design, and robotics in K-5 classrooms. The grant pays for visitors to participate in both small group school visits as well as an annual conference, "Building Engineers in K-5 Classrooms". Please visit k5engineers.org to learn more!

Implementation: Active Collaborative Engagement (grades 6-12)

ACE

Our A.C.E. grant seeks to capitalize on the energy and momentum generated in our K-5 classrooms and expand it's impact to our secondary students and teachers. Grant funds pay for 2 cohorts of up to 25 teachers to be created to lead this effort in our 6-12 classrooms. These teachers are master teachers in a variety of content areas. Each cohort will receive year-long professional development and support, in order to create highly engaging, digitally infused mini projects that align to our greatest area of need (according to student achievement data).

These leaders will then implement these projects with their students, supported by DIFs, in an effort to have a positive impact on student learning. These projects will then be spread into classrooms across Moore County Schools.

May 2018 Showcase Grant: Building Engineers in K-5 Classrooms (Conference)

DL Showcase This grant funded our first Building Engineers in K-5 Classrooms Conference- held May 4th, 2018 at Pinecrest High School. We welcomed 200+ educators from 30 different counties across North Carolina to our gym to experience our elementary robotics competition. Over 300 students showcased their critical thinking and problem solving abilities with their teams, while DIFs led sessions for attendees on how to get started with robotics and engineering in their own K-5 classrooms.
