UPDATE: February 4, 2025 - PowerSchool has begun sending notification emails to those impacted by their cybersecurity incident. They are using the email address [email protected].

We are aware of a cyber incident recently reported by PowerSchool, our former Student Information System provider, which impacted student and staff data across the state.
Key Points:
  • PowerSchool reported a cyber incident to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and shared that, with the assistance of CyberSteward, a cybersecurity firm, any breached data has been securely destroyed.
  • While we fully transitioned to Infinite Campus in August of 2024, the state and PowerSchool stored legacy data from Moore County Schools, dating back to 2013.
  • NCDPI has confirmed that Moore County Schools was included in the breached data. We are evaluating the full impact, but have confirmed that no student Social Security numbers were breached.
  • PowerSchool has confirmed that there was nothing Moore County Schools or NCDPI could have done to prevent this cybersecurity incident. They will be contacting affected families and employees directly by the end of January.
