Superintendent Search

The Moore County Board of Education has initiated a search for the district’s next superintendent. The Board is committed to a professional, transparent, and inclusive process that reflects the needs of Moore County Schools and the best interests of all students and families.

To support this work, the Board has retained BWP & Associates, a firm that specializes in assisting school boards with superintendent searches.

Major Events

  • On December 1, 2025, Superintendent Dr. Tim Locklair announced his retirement effective March 1, 2026.

  • On December 17, 2025, the Board named Jenny Purvis as Interim Superintendent of Moore County Schools, effective March 1, 2026.

Moore County Schools is seeking a superintendent to lead the school system as it continues to ensure that educational experiences inspire students to reach their full potential and equip them for success in an ever-changing world.

About Moore County Schools

  • Serves approximately 13,017 students in grades PK–12

  • Operates 24 schools, including elementary, middle, high school, technical/alternative, and virtual/Blend+Ed programs

  • Employs more than 1,764 staff members

  • Governed by a seven-member, nonpartisan Board of Education, elected to staggered four-year terms

  • Supported by strong community partnerships, including the Moore County Chamber of Commerce, Moore County Economic Development Partnership, and Sandhills Community College

Candidate Requirements (Summary)

  • Must meet legal requirements to be licensed as a superintendent in North Carolina or be otherwise qualified and eligible in accordance with State Board of Education policy

  • The selected candidate will be required to reside in Moore County

  • Central office and building-level experience preferred

  • A doctoral degree or progress toward one preferred but not required

  • Applicants must hold, or provide evidence of eligibility for, North Carolina Superintendent Certification

Stakeholder Feedback Survey

As part of the superintendent search process, the Moore County Board of Education is providing an online survey for all stakeholders to offer input on the leadership qualities and priorities desired in the district’s next superintendent.

Public Comment

Members of the public may address the Moore County Board of Education during public comment at regular business meetings on February 9, March 9, and April 20.

Individuals wishing to speak must sign up in person between 4:45 p.m. and 5:25 p.m. on the evening of the meeting. Regular business meetings begin at 5:30 p.m.
