MCS Commemorates Constitution Day

CARTHAGE, N.C. – Moore County Schools celebrated Constitution Day on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, with a bell-ringing ceremony held at the historic Old Schoolhouse located at the MCS Central Office in Carthage.

The observance began at noon with welcoming remarks from Superintendent Dr. Tim Locklair, who noted the importance of civic education in schools and thanked those in attendance, including members of the Board of Education. Dr. Locklair highlighted that across the district, students were participating in lessons and activities to deepen their understanding of the Constitution and the values it represents.

Following his remarks, Board Chair Dr. Robin Calcutt addressed the audience, reflecting on the significance of Constitution Day and the symbolism of ringing the Old Schoolhouse bell. “Just as bells rang out in 1787 to celebrate liberty, our ringing today serves as a reminder of our ongoing commitment to education, to democracy, and to preparing the next generation of engaged citizens,” Calcutt said.

The ceremony concluded with the ringing of the Old Schoolhouse bell, joining a nationwide observance of Constitution Day and honoring one of the most significant moments in American history—the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787.
