MCS Commemorates Constitution Day

Moore County Schools commemorated Constitution Day on September 17, 2025, with a bell-ringing ceremony at the historic Old Schoolhouse in Carthage. Superintendent Dr. Tim Locklair emphasized the importance of civic education and recognized students’ participation in Constitution-related lessons across the district. Board Chair Dr. Robin Calcutt reflected on the symbolism of ringing the bell as a reminder of the nation’s enduring commitment to liberty and democracy. The event concluded with the ringing of the Old Schoolhouse bell, joining communities nationwide in honoring the signing of the U.S. Constitution.

MIHS Ribbon Cutting Photos
Moore Innovative High Ribbon Cutting

Moore County Schools celebrated the official ribbon cutting for Moore Innovative High School (MIHS) on the Sandhills Community College campus, the district’s first cooperative innovative high school focused on skilled trades. The inaugural class of 65 students began in August and will benefit from small cohorts, hands-on learning, and direct access to SCC faculty and labs. Supported by a $25 million state investment, MIHS is designed to prepare students for high-wage, high-skill careers while strengthening Moore County’s workforce and community.

2024-2025 Accountability Results

Moore County Schools is celebrating exciting accountability results for 2024–2025, with student scores at five-year highs and our district continuing to outperform state averages. Fifteen schools met or exceeded growth, three schools improved their School Performance Grades, and no schools received an F. From record English and math results to a graduation rate above the state average, our students and staff continue to make us #MCSProud! 🎉

Moore County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tim Locklair has been named the 2025–2026 Sandhills Region Superintendent of the Year and is now a finalist for the A. Craig Phillips State Superintendent of the Year Award. This recognition highlights Dr. Locklair’s leadership and the collective efforts of the MCS team, whose work has helped the district rank among the Top 10 in North Carolina for both Grade Level Proficiency and Career & Technical Education. Under his guidance, Moore County Schools continues to expand opportunities for students, including the launch of Moore Innovative High School in Fall 2025.

Moore County Schools proudly welcomed the inaugural class of Moore Innovative High School (MIHS) as 65 students began their high school journey on a rainy but historic day. Superintendent Dr. Tim Locklair, Senator Tom McInnis, and Sandhills Community College President Dr. Sandy Stewart joined Principal Ciccone and MIHS staff to greet students and mark the occasion. The opening of MIHS represents a bold step forward in innovative, student-centered learning, and this founding class will forever be part of the school’s legacy.
