    Growing to Greatness Honorees, May 2018

    Certified Staff – Danielle McElroy, New Century Middle School


    Ms. McElroy has taught at New Century Middle School for 4 years. She celebrates her 7th grade students’ strengths while challenging their weaknesses in an environment that is positive and engaging.

    She is a leader in the classroom and in the school. Ms. McElroy shares her ability to create positive relationships with students as the leader of the Centurion Connections Program. She co-teaches with both EC and AIG teachers and their work has become a model for inclusion within the school. Ms. McElroy also serves as the secretary of the school improvement team, the coordinator of the summer transition program and the softball coach.  

    Students can’t wait to go to Ms. “Macs” class. She is an amazing example of greatness at New Century.


    Support Staff – Kathy Porter, Cameron Elementary


    Ms. Kathy Porter has served as a data manager for 7 years at Cameron Elementary School. Many who visit the school often share how warm and caring she is. Students will find ways to visit the office just to talk with her.

    Students, staff and parents have all been the beneficiaries of her pleasant smile and heartfelt hello. She is well known in Cameron Elementary and in the community for going the extra mile to help others. Cameron Elementary is fortunate to have Ms. Porter as part of the family, and she is the perfect example of what it means to be CamScotsProud!



    Student – Josue Dominguez, North Moore High School

    Josue Dominguez, a senior at North Moore High School, is this month’s Growing to Greatness student recipient. Josue is a student that leads by example. His teachers and peers would describe him as kind, positive, and always willing to go out of his way to help others. Josue possesses not only a great heart that shines through in all he does, but also a wonderful work ethic which has driven him to academic success.

    A 2018 honor graduate, Josue will have completed 7 Sandhills Community College courses for transfer credit, as well as, 5 Advanced Placement courses by the time he walks the stage on June 9, 2018.

    Recently, Josue was awarded a Google Summer Internship as a result of his efforts in his AP Computer Science coursework.Google will be flying him to Massachusetts and paying for him to reside in the dorm and learn from Google programmers for 3 weeks this summer-all expenses paid! Josue has plans of finishing up this general education credits at Sandhills Community College through the Sandhills Promise Program and has already been accepted into UNC Charlotte, where he plans to transfer after he finishes up at Sandhills.

    Josue is a true example of the Mustang Way and demonstrates respect, responsibility and integrity in all he does. North Moore is proud of all he has contributed to their campus and looks forward to seeing him accomplish much more in the future.  

    Additional Recognition - AJ Beechler


    Pinecrest High School senior, AJ Beechler, won his second straight 4A Individual State Championship at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 4A Men’s Golf Championship.

    AJ is a dedicated and hardworking student athlete and will be attending East Carolina University in the fall. Moore County Schools is excited to see the great things he will go on to do in the future.
